I've begun 'rendering' my songs to 16bit 44.1Khz audio... but, the overall volume seems really low in comparison to other songs in my collection (other people's). This is when my master volume is at 0dB and I normalize the rendering. I've boosted the master volume to 6dB, rendered and then re-rendered the track with an additional 6dB, without normalizing the rendering (the only way to boost the volume in rendering?)... I've had to do this three times, adding 18dB to my track, in order for it to be of comparable volume to the other tracks in my collection!

Mon, October 15, 2007 - 3:02 PMbuild a mastering chain.
drop an effects rack into your effects page and build separate chains with EQ crossovers and compressors. throw in a limiter and your done! -

Re: Mastering Rendering
Fri, October 19, 2007 - 12:20 PMi build three chains inside a main mastering chain.
each chain contains an EQ 8 and a compressor. Use low and hi cut filters to select your frequency range in each EQ 8 and then adjust your compressors accordingly. Throw a nice reverb in the end with low "wet" and a limiter and you've got a mastering chain.
I don't suggest by any means it is a substitute for a good mastering engineer - but not all of us can afford $100+ per track for mastering. -

Re: Mastering Rendering
Sat, October 27, 2007 - 2:41 PMIzotope Ozone is pretty good, but I wouldn't recommend using only it. The multiband Harmonic exciter section of it is pretty good but I don't particularly care for the Limiter/Maximizer section of it. And the plugins Metering is Terrible.
I would REALLY recommend checking out the Wavearts plugs. Although not as high end as actual Waves plugins, they are WAY cheaper, have a cleaner interface, are light on CPU, and Sttill sound VEry good IMOH.
www.wavearts.com/
You can get a bundle or you can purchase them seperately.
I would say that you could EASILY get away with using the "Final Plug" and the "Trackplug" if youre just looking for some HQ Sweetening and Maximizing.
Hope that helps

Re: Mastering Rendering
Sat, October 27, 2007 - 4:36 PMWow! Wavearts plugs look great! I've checked out Waves plugs and was happy to find thier sidechain compressor... I'll try out Wavearts plugs, now. I've been using Ozone on my master track, along w/ Live's Analog Warmth rack. It sure boost my sound in a good way and limits my output from clipping.
So, when rendering to audio, does anyone render in 88KHz and dither down to 44KHz? I've recorded audio at 44KHz and found it to be choppy and grainy... not smooth. I recorded at 96KHz and found my audio recording to sound pretty smooth... Maybe it could sound better at 132KHz...
Does anyone have any opinions or comments of thier experience adjusting the sample rates during recording and playback?
