I just ordered a copy at the recommendation of a wise and tallented friend who says that a lot of the pros are using Battery 3 for drum sampling and looping. I was hoping for opinions on how well it works with Live. Any comments? I've long been searching for good and entirely useful and unique drum sounds and this looks like the way to go. Feedback much appreciated.

Re: anyone using NI's Battery 3?
Tue, July 10, 2007 - 1:01 PMBattery and Live work beautifully together. You won't be disapointed. And when you say that you've been searching for Good and Entirely useful and unique drum sounds, then you're in luck because the Battery Libraries are Top notch. Not to mention, you can also throw in your own samples and favorite drum sounds if you need.
I also highly recomend the battery expansion pack , "Synthetis Drums v.2". VERY , Very yummy sounds in that one. -

Wed, July 11, 2007 - 1:01 PMWord. Oh yea. I didn't even recognise that that was you at 1st. You got your ticket for this year?
Erin and I do. Quite a few people say they aren't going this year though. -

Wed, July 11, 2007 - 7:40 PMI'm with the quite a few then. I know my GF is gonna want to go some year, but not this year for me. I'll see you out there again some year.
Thanks for the info on battery, I'll put her to good use. So for I have really been working from tweeked and mangled loops and cut ups as I don't have any really, you know, good sounds. I think this will help a lot. -

Re: anyone using NI's Battery 3?
Thu, July 12, 2007 - 4:59 PMWord. A great starting point for tweaking with Battery is to mix and match the Stock midi files with different kits. There's some VERY good midi note programming in those midi files that you can grab and copy and use at your liesure. Just drag the midi file onto the Live track containg Battery.
For example, try using the Toksin midi file with the Alkaloid kit and then just copy and paste and re-edit note postions and velocities. Or try mixing the Richard Devine midi file with the Apparat kit (thats if you have the "synthetic drums 2'' addon).
I have alot of fun doing this. And it's good for experimenting.
Hope that helps. -

Re: anyone using NI's Battery 3?
Thu, July 12, 2007 - 7:38 PMFer sheeze. I think I pick it up tomorrow. I messed with the demo for the alotted half hour, and even the demo kits were far and above in quality compared to what I am working with now. -

Re: anyone using NI's Battery 3?
Wed, July 18, 2007 - 6:32 PMWow, that's a nice program. It's frikkin' beefey. A lot to manage it seems but it will get easier. I think I'm already about half way up the learning curve and have been puting kits together. The only negative that I have with it so far is that it's so expansive that it's hard for a new user to easily navigate and find the right sounds, but that will be fixed with time and experience. Thanks for the tips, Audiovoid, I'll be back for more soon. -

Re: anyone using NI's Battery 3?
Thu, July 19, 2007 - 7:23 PMYea it IS huge. But the great thing is that with Version 3 there's now a browser included which makes it easier than ever to find and quickly audition sounds. You'll soon learn which kits have which types of sounds and can start mixing and matching and tweaking away.
Also, if you havn't read the "Factory Kits PDF Manual" yet then you totaly should because it's really interesting and explains what each kit is, how it was made, what types of mic's and processors were used, etc. There's some really creative ones in there like the "Berlin Headquarter's Kit" which was made be them going around and mic-ing different everday sounds at the NI Headquarters in Berlin. Pretty silly.
But after I read all that stuff I gained a new apprecition for some of the kits that I just kind of passed on before.
Anywhoo. Happy-Beating:) -

Re: anyone using NI's Battery 3?
Sun, July 22, 2007 - 12:25 PMThanks.
Maybe we need a battery 3 tribe, but I have a question for you too now. I cannot audition sounds from the browser view. The window reads no file found and if I hit the play button, nothing. I really want this feature to work as it's awesome that with the mapping, I can load several bass hits together for instance, but it's not so hot if I can't audition from the browser. I'll go check the NI forums maybe if I don't have any luck tonight.
Deffinitely a good score and highly recommended drum sequencer and so much more. All sounds are totally customisable in an easy to use interface. It's on sale for $199 it seems from $299 most places I looked. -

Mon, July 23, 2007 - 2:21 PM"The window reads no file found and if I hit the play button, nothing"
-Hmmmm. The only thing that I can think of is that maybe Battery is not being pointed to the direct location of the factory sound bank. You can try going to File, options, and then check that the default Battery Library path is correct.
Otherwise I have no idea. It might be some wierd bug and possibly re-installing battery might solve it. -
