Re: does anyone like me just use ableton for makin remix's and mixes not original music????
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 1:38 AMso does that mean if i use it for *both* that i'm excluded?
i find that remixes lead to ideas for original music, so i'm always doing both sides of the equation--production-wise. -

Sat, April 26, 2008 - 2:23 PMHey much love to the remixers out there but, electronic music is too goddamn easy these days to NOT make original material. I remember trying to chain my workstation keyboard and a drum machine and a sampler. Thank God for Ableton, Reason, Native Instruments, etc....

Re: does anyone like me just use ableton for makin remix's and mixes not original music????
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 7:02 PMease doesn't equal more quality, it equals more quantity.
i wrote more solid melodies when i had to write them for other people to play (sometimes much harder than plugging in midi cables.) i find that now that things are "easier" i tend to throw away more than i used to (there's more to throw.) that may be my failings, but i don't think i'm alone here.
my SOUND quality is a lot better than it used to be, but the tunes take more work to be solid SONGS now. your mileage may vary... -

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 1:02 PMOh no.....a good song is still a good song and that is never an easy thing to write.....I just get surprised at the amount of digital DJs out there who do remixes and mashups of other peoples work. Then again....I am not a DJ and my focus is not really dance music.

Fri, May 16, 2008 - 4:55 PMHi Neil, I use Ableton for both creating and mixing. I'm not up on the technology, but for what I am doing it does a decent job.

Sun, May 18, 2008 - 11:44 AMThe majority of my use for it has been with live mixing in the session view. do you use a controller ? All my mixes are up on my website either in mp3 form or in an podcast you can get in itunes - www.djdownpat.com - some are on cdj's but the most recent are with ableton.

Today, 6:48 AMCount me in.
I'm starting to learn how to mix wih ableton, but like our friend there, I find that the more u mix, the more ideas u get.
I´m already thinking about adding some samples and loops to a dj mix, like "giving my touch" to a song. -

Today, 5:38 PMYou can REALLY have some fun with Ableton as a remixing tool by putting different tracks through different Effects Racks and tweaking them in real time....there are some special DJ/Performance helper racks that are a constant source of fun for me. You just assign different macro controls in the rack to different knobs or sliders on your controller.
